Twillingate-Day 15-June 15, 2021

Officially one quarter of the way through this life changing experience.

It seems I start every blog singing the praises of this amazing place I find myself, I see no reason why this blog should be any different.

Twillingate, and the surrounding communities are simply amazing, treasure both natural and constructed is to be found around each turn in the road. From the ever present root cellars, some restores and colorful, looking more like hobbit homes in some cases than root cellars, to the remains, the hint of a mound that you know once served to preserve a families perishables through the cold of winter and the heat of summer.

To the heritage buildings, many restored to former glory, given new purpose as some transform from 200 year old warehouses to places of craft and art.

To the rugged coastline, the rocks shaped and sculpted by the relentless seas.

To the sweeping vistas over the ocean where the sun gives a show and the whales can frequently be seen.

This place is a slice of what makes the entire province a special place, magical in a very real way.

Last night the magic revealed itself to me…

The sunset was nothing short of spectacular, here’s a couple of nice shots I want to share before I post my proof that magic exists and nature has a wonderful sense of humour.

These shots were taken between Back Harbour, quickly becoming a daily visit for me, and Sleepy Cove, which has already taken a spot in my heart and soul.

A shot of my 345,000 km Subaru, Bobby the Bone Wagon, enjoying the view…

And finally, here it is, the magical shot…

aS A PHOT

As a photo, this is perhaps the BEST sunset photo I have ever taken, the balance of sky, sea, coast and foreground. The flowers showing life, the colors in the sky. I love this photo. While I am often pleased the with work I do, I rarely LOVE it, but in this case… its love.

Now, the magic.

The magic is in the sky where the light and the clouds came together to create a shape that looks not unlike the top half of the island portion of the province. THATS magical.

This photo is now available in my shop btw!

Today I discovered something special.

As most who have followed me will know, I am a HUGE fan of churches. Even deconsecrated and repurposed they hold a sense of spirit and strength. They remain sacred places. I become almost meditative when I am in these places and I truly feel like I am in the presence of something higher when I am near them.

Here’s the church I had the pleasure of being in the company of today in Little Harbour.

The detail and skill involved in the windows, just stunning…

Just as an FYI, I am working on a couple of community outreach items for my time here, I’ll have more info on those as they become available, however, if you are in the area and would like to chat, or join me for a shoot, share some pointers and tips in the field, please, feel free to reach out!

I do hope you are enjoying these blogs, if there is anything else you would like to see here please let me know!

Thanks for joining me on this journey!

Don’t forget, if you love the work, think about purchasing a piece or purchasing a coffee. I have lots of klicks to cover this summer, and your support was never more appreciated.
