Something a little different for you today, yesterday I tried the voice recording of the blog podcast, today I tried a video. It’s sloppy. framing is meh, sound is echo-ey and the background needs work.
All details lol…
I hope you enjoyed that lol, I promise the production values will improve as we proceed!
So, one thing I mentioned in the video was that I was coming close to an idea of what I want my show to look like. Or, what the subject would be.
I thought I had that firmly in hand prior to coming out here, but as we know, best laid plans and all that.
I was going to focus on historic and abandoned homes in the area, only to discover the pickings were slim. A testament to the drive of the folks in the area to revitalize and repurpose these structures, hats of to them. Way to ruin my plan, shesssh, but that’s ok, I would give up EVERY plan to see these places thrive and get new purpose.
So, here’s the thing.
Since I have been out here I have started using the phrase Saltwater or Outport Cathedrals to describe the sheds, stages, shops and stores that are throughout not just this region, but the entire province. I have had a near religious sense of calm and rightness every time I have photographed one of these magical locations. I consider them to be sacred, the weight of the history in them, the story of hard work and enjoyment both that was the hallmark of the folks who built and used them.
So, for the parting show and leading into the festival itself this fall I will be displaying a collection of photos of Saltwater Cathedrals I have been fortunate enough to discover and shoot in my time here. I am going to strive for images that tell the story of spirituality that exists in these places, the soul of the building if you will, the echoes of those who have used them.
I hope you will enjoy the photos I ultimately chose to include in the exhibit, they will be photos that speak directly to me in a profound way, so I am excited to see if they have resonance with others who view them as well.
Here’s a collection of some of the images I have captured so far, if you have been following my blog from the beginning many of these will be familiar to you, but I think it will be interesting to see them all in one space.
There you have it, an idea of what I am seeing, what I am experiencing.
I only hope my setback with the car doesn’t put me too far behind in my journey, it shouldn’t, but curve balls are just that, curve balls.
I do hope you are enjoying these blogs, if there is anything else you would like to see here please let me know!
Thanks for joining me on this journey!
