Twillingate-Day 47-July 17, 2021

So lets talk a little about editing.

Some of you may have been on my recent webinar and at the tail end I talked a little about how I used Lightroom to play with light and color to bring my work to life. I thought it might be fun to post a couple of slider images here of my work as it was capture in RAW and what I created from those images in Lightroom.

I’m going to be doing a Youtube video soon showing my process but for now, here’s a couple of examples…

As you can see, the change can be VERY dramatic…

I see a lot of posts from folks stating their photos are “Unedited” or “Real” or “Not filtered”. They say these things in a way that makes me think they are invalidating photos that are edited, or that editing somehow lessens the value of the work.

This is utter and complete bull-hooey in my informed opinion.

Editing can enhance, it can enrich.

For me it allows me to express myself as an artist and deliver a image that shows the world as I see it, it allows me to paint with light, to accentuate what I feel tells the story in the most effective way.

I don’t know why folks need to say what they say, and maybe I’m reading too much into it. but it does feel like a sneer at edited photos…

Anyhoo…. beauty, as they say, is in the eye of the beholder and I personally think that the edits I do elevates the work, as does the edits of most of the professional photographers I know…

Have a wonderful evening folks, if you would like to see more of these before and after photos please let me know, I’d be happy to put these up from time to time….

All the very best!

  1. Hi, first of all, great work as usual, you are an outstanding photographer, one of my favorite.

I completely agree with you on editing. Its the photographer’s art. Editing is a part of bringing the photographer’s vision to life.

You are not the only one that thinks that way. I too feel that comments like that seem to belittle the art but it in no way does. If anything, the work that can go into editing elevates it.

If someone don’t like it, that’s fine. But to think less of the photos because its edited, foolish.
