Home-Day 95-Sept 3, 2021

Hello everybody.

So I tried to log in to my block site on my computer and for some reason it wouldn’t accept my password which is weird because it’s the same one I use on my mobile device which is what I am blogging on now.

I’m doing this voice to text so if there’s any weirdness or awkward pacing then I’m going to blame it on that and be done with it lol.

So today I launched my NFT collection Twillingate Explored and while it’s gained a lot of activity on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook there haven’t been any sales. I would be more discouraged if it weren’t for the stories of other photographers that I’ve been reading that waited a long time for their collections to move as well.

Look I knew this wasn’t going to be a Is get rich quick scheme or anything like that. I knew it wasn’t going to be as easy as posting a bunch of photos and having people spend their hard earned money on them. It’s going to take time to build an audience and to get people engaged in what I’m doing.

I still very much believe in the platform and the idea of NFTS.

Tomorrow morning though I am getting up and visiting one of my favorite places and doing some much needed photo therapy.

Until tomorrow have a great evening and we will speak soon.

Home-Day 87-August 26, 2021

Lord blogging everyday is a commitment I should have thought through… it’s harder than you might think, particularly when there is so much going on in my personal life, and frankly, so little in my professional one…

One needs to slow down and regain some sanity…

The other needs to take off…

God I’m not one to beg or anything, but it sure would be nice if some NFT collector finds value in my work and starts a collection. With these things, it takes one, then two and then a snowball and it could take off.

I just don’t think I’m edgy enough to catch the right eye, looking at the types of NFT’s that are selling my work is just beautiful photos of everyday things….

I feel they are more then that, that the way I treat light and composition, the editing process, helps to create a captivating narrative that begs the viewer to look more than once…

But that’s me….

I have to say though, how amazing would it be to tap into this source of revenue that so many others are availing of? The good I could do??? The scholarship I spoke of, done… the mentorship and grant program for young disadvantaged photographers…. done….

If you are reading this, and you are a collector, who wants to own some very nice work from one of the most incredible places on earth created by a photographer not only on the rise, but one recreating himself at 50+ after physical, mental, social and financial destruction who know wants to repay the kindness shown to him….

Im right here…

And my work is right there…..

I tweeted a long thread this afternoon about where I came from and some of the bumps in my road. I was going to reassemble that thread here but it’s late and Darlene is actually getting up for work in the morning, so proud of her, what a warrior…

Instead I’ll embed the tweet here for you to have a read if interested….

A little thread, an intro for the new folks and a recap of where I am, where I can from, where I want to be going… this may end up in my blog a little later as well, we will see…

First, thanks to everyone of you who are following my journey. It's been bumpy, sometimes cruel, sometimes an exercise in self pity, but also a journey filled with joy, celebration and self-discovery and reflection…

first… I have always been drawn to the arts, ended up studying art in University and graduated from NSCAD in 1993 with a Bach. of Fine Arts. Sadly, I strayed from that and ended up working a 20+ year career in retail and management…

It was something I was good at, VERY good at. IN fact, in less than 2 years I went from a yard worker to management with a large retail company. I loved the job. It has its stresses, mostly pressure from above, but I loved the staff, the customers….

Then, disaster hit. While I was away for manager meetings in New Brunswick I slipped getting out of the shower and hurt my back, badly. This started a multi-year journey where my place of work took no responsibility and my district manager ended up creating so much stress …

That I ended up screwing up on the job. Bad enough in their eyes to terminate me. Personally, I think they were waiting for the chance. I did make a mistake, but they never once asked what might have caused the mistake…

I ended up in bankruptcy, lost a house and was still suffering with the pain and consequences of the fall. It was just 6 months after the termination that I received word I would have spinal surgery…

The spinal surgery went well, the issues happened around 2 weeks later when I started suffering the worst headaches of my life. I ended up BACK in surgery to repair a tear to my spinal sheath that was leaking cranial fluid… fun

It's been a long recovery, and I am still feeling the effects, mentally, physically and emotionally. BUT it ended up being the best thing that ever happened to me….

To combat the stress I took up photography, and wouldn't you know it, I loved it… LOVED it… and, it turned out, I'm ok at doing it…

The past two years have been a journey of growth, ups and downs and trying to figure out how to make this my career. I'm still not there, but it's getting closer. I've had an artist residency, several shows, sold work and have plans for a photo tour business…

And now I am trying to venture into the new world of NFT's and what that entails… I'm not looking for millions lol, I do hope to be comfortable, not worry, be able to explore more and more and to pay it forward…

Right now I am working on a body of work focused on historic but everyday places and objects, old stages, sheds, wharfs, tools, the commonplace things that define who we are. I hope to travel the province and find these sacred places on the back roads and islands..

Life still has its challenges, just recently my wife suffered her first Grand Mal seizure and as a result has been off work as well as losing her licence for 6 months, my oldest is on the spectrum and is trying to navigate his way into adulthood… life keeps changing..

We change with it. I let the past define the work I do. These structures and places are self portraits, they are forgotten, worn down, but are still beautiful. I hope you continue to enjoy the photos I share…

To see my work, or to read more of my story, visit http://oldbonesphoto.com where I keep a daily blog, or continue to tune into this space right here… sorry this meandered on lol… thanks if you stuck to the end!

I'll finish up with a few of my personal favorite photos… after all… words are just words…. photos are the complete story….

That’s it folks… that’s tonights offering…

Oh, a couple of shots of the moon before I leave…

The first was taken just as it rose over the horizon, heavily hazed and distorted but what colour!

The second is about 45 minutes later, higher in the sky, less distorted and easier to define detail, particularly at the terminator… the outer edge is still a little wobbly but that’s to be expected. Also still retaining some measure of the orange hue, but very much subdued at this point…

Don’t forget, if you love the work, think about purchasing a piece or buying a coffee I have lots of klicks to cover this summer, and your support was never more appreciated.

Happy Birthday to Me – Day 86 – August25th, 2021

Look at that face peering at the world a scant 51 years ago lol…

Image

Little did he know the horrors that awaited him lol…

Nah, its not all that bad, not at all.

I had a little mental crisis last night but feeling a little, no, a lot, better about things today.

I MINTED MY COLLECTION!!

It may never ever get a bid, but I am very proud of it, proud that I took the chance to leap into a new and confusing economy with block-chain, crypto and sooooo much more I don’t understand.

What I DO understand is that it is yet another vehicle to promote and share my work, and, if the right collector feels strongly about it, a chance to make some money. It would also be a chance to take that money and find some other artist just screaming in the night and help them out… that folks, is an amazing aspiration, and if the crazy new world of NFT’s can help me do that, its worth trying…

Check out the collection here...

Here are the four photos represented in the Time Progresses collection…

I don’t know, maybe I’m nuts…

Maybe it’ll work…

I could use the life altering kind of break selling these NFT’s could provide, our family could use it…

The world awaits!

That’s about it for tonight folks… thanks for stopping by, I appreciate you all!
